Tennis at Faulu

Racket skills, footwork and match play — teaching learners to compete fairly and to think clearly under pressure.

Why tennis is part of the week

Tennis is coached on campus in small groups so every learner gets a genuine number of hits rather than standing in a queue. Sessions cover grip, footwork, the basic strokes and, as learners progress, serving and simple match play.

Tennis is unusually good at teaching self-management. A learner is alone on their side of the net: they have to keep their composure after a bad point, make their own decisions, and call the game honestly. Those are lessons that land harder here than in a lecture.
