Why violin is part of the week

Violin is taught on campus in small groups, starting with how to stand, how to hold the instrument and bow, and how to draw a clean, even note. Nothing is rushed — the foundations matter more on strings than on almost any other instrument.

Because the violin has no frets, a learner has to hear whether a note is in tune and correct it themselves. That trains the ear in a way few other instruments do, and it teaches a young person to listen closely and judge their own work honestly.
